Our History 1945 - Present |
Founders Margaret-Jean & Lloyd |
In 1945, Lloyd Hutton bought his first license and
two trucks and set up business in Glammis, Ontario. He began by hauling livestock,
grain seed, and bagged fertilizer. Lloyd Hutton Transport was the first firm in
the area to haul butcher cattle to Toronto when the farmers became concerned with
rail strikes in the early 1950's. Hutton purchased his first tractor-trailer for
$8,000.00, a far cry from todays prices of over $250,000.
In the 1960's, Lloyd started trucking everything
from cabinets to Christmas trees to the western provinces, and bringing livestock back
to Ontario.
Over the years, the business expanded. Lloyd
bought four different companies in the area and it was in 1977 that he moved the business
from Glammis to the outskirts of Paisley (Elderslie Township). Lloyd died suddenly on
June 5th, 1987 and has been sadly missed. Lloyd's son, Jim, took over the reigns of the business
at that time. In 1991, Lloyd Hutton Transport was granted their ICC Authority from the United
States Government, which allowed them to broaden their travel spectrum. The fleet began to grow again, and currently there are 50
power units and 60 trailers on the road bearing the Hutton name.
Jim led the company through many changes and substantial growth
until his untimely death in 1993. At this time, Jim's oldest son, Greg, left college and
led the company into the new millennium. Greg has also expanded and adapted the business to
accommodate the changing trends and conditions in the transport industry. This family owned business
has been operating since 1945, with three generations of Hutton's each making their
mark in the trucking industry. It has been the efficient staff, drivers and the great customer base
that have made this legacy possible.
